Okuma parçaları, YDS'nin en çok soru getiren ve en çok zaman isteyen bölümüdür. Sınavın ikinci yarısında, çeviri sorularının ardından genellikle beş parça ve her parçaya bağlı dört soru yer alır. Parçalar bilim, tıp, tarih, psikoloji, ekonomi, çevre gibi akademik konulardan seçilir ve 180–250 sözcük uzunluğundadır.
Bu bölümde ölçülen şey, metni kelime kelime çevirmek değil; ana fikri yakalamak, ayrıntıyı doğru yerde bulmak, çıkarım yapmak ve yazarın amacını ve tutumunu anlamaktır. İyi haber şu: Doğru cevap her zaman metinde bir yere dayanır. Bu yüzden okuma parçası soruları, strateji uygulandığında en güvenilir net kaynağıdır.

Honeybees communicate the location of food sources through a series of movements known as the "waggle dance". The angle of the dance relative to the vertical indicates the direction of the food in relation to the sun, while the duration of the waggle phase signals its distance. Remarkably, bees can adjust the dance as the sun moves across the sky, even when they have been inside the dark hive for some time.

Until the late nineteenth century, surgery was often more dangerous than the illnesses it aimed to cure, as many patients died from infections after otherwise successful operations.
